Body Conscious

Ok so recently there has been a lot of controversy in the news about Topshop mannequins being extremely small and giving out bad body image. Yes this is bad but imagine if shops did only use "bigger" mannequins then the slimmer people of the world would also feel like they are being judged etc. Body image is such a strong thing and everyone needs to realise that we are not all the same size. I feel as though I'm being a little patronising with that sentence and I promise I'm not trying to be.

I do work within a fashion retailer and there are many times I have heard people complain about items of clothing being pinned to fit the mannequins and there are perfectly good reasons for this. Most mannequins are designed to fit a size 8 or 10 in women's clothing. Now due to popular demand in stores the best product is not always available so it is not possible to dress the mannequins in the sizes that fit them so of course we opt to keep the best product on show by using bigger sizes but pinning them to fit so that customers will see how the item looks on. Fashion and its retailers will always be under scrutiny about body image and the messages people believe they are trying to convey.

We all have parts of our bodies that we aren't happy with. If you know your friends body hang ups why don't you compliment them on it and hopefully they would return the favour. Perhaps this way we can all start to feel better about ourselves and be accepting of who we are.

I know this has been a an extremely ranty post and I apologise but I strongly believe we should all be conscious of people's feelings in this area. Complaining about things being made for only "skinny" people or only "bigger" people will just cause upset. We should love ourselves and each other for who we are no matter what size or shape. We are all beautiful.

I also want to apologise for my lack of posting. I have been a little out of touch with my blogging self as I didn't feel like I was contributing much. However, I hope that this post helps at least one of you to accept and love yourself and others. Its taken myself a while to do but I promise you it is so worth it and you feel more carefree (at least I do).
